The experience
You start at Ryugado Cave in Kami City, where the limestone formations took hundreds of millions of years to form. The well-maintained route takes you past dramatic stalactites, underground streams, and the rock shapes that have drawn visitors year-round for their cool, mysterious atmosphere. Archaeological remains scattered through the cave mark where ancient people once lived here.
From there the tour moves to Hirome Market in central Kochi City, a lively indoor food market where you eat among locals at shared seating. The specialties are seared bonito, fresh seafood, local sake, and street-food style dishes: the kind of place where you taste what Kochi actually eats. Next is Kochi Castle, one of Japan's rare castles with its original keep and main buildings still standing. You explore the authentic architecture and climb to the top for panoramic views of the city and the surrounding grounds.
The tour ends at Katsurahama Beach, famous for its pine trees and dramatic Pacific views, and home to a large statue of Sakamoto Ryoma, one of Japan's most celebrated historical figures. If time allows, you'll stop at Godaisan Observatory on Mount Godai for panoramic views of the city, Urado Bay, and the mountains. The driver speaks Japanese only, so communication happens through a translation app. You'll receive English tour details before you go.
