The experience
Two hours is enough to learn kintsugi from the ground up. The instructor walks you through the traditional technique step by step, showing you how to take a broken ceramic piece and revive it with gold or silver accents. The pottery arrives already broken (you're not starting from damage you caused), so the focus stays on the repair work itself and the design choices you make as you restore it.
What you make is a simplified version of full kintsugi, which means it won't hold food or drink, but that's by design: it becomes a finished art object instead. You'll take it home as a one-of-a-kind souvenir that sits on a shelf, hangs on a wall, or holds small objects on a desk. The piece is yours to keep, decorated and repaired by your own hands during the session.
The workshop sits in Naha and runs with a live guide who speaks English or Japanese. All materials, instruction and taxes are included in the price. Public transportation stops nearby if you're traveling without a car.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English and Japanese.
What exactly is kintsugi and how does it work?
Kintsugi is a traditional Japanese pottery repair method that fills cracks and broken edges with gold or silver, turning damage into decorative seams. In this workshop, you learn the technique hands-on, applying the precious metals to a ceramic piece the instructor provides, then finishing it with your own design choices.
Do I need pottery experience to join this workshop?
No experience is necessary. The instructor guides you through every step, and the class is designed so anyone can complete a finished piece in two hours, regardless of background.
Can I use the pottery I make for eating or drinking?
The piece you create is a simplified kintsugi version, so it's not food-safe. It works beautifully as wall art, a shelf decoration, or a decorative tray for small objects, and it becomes a personal keepsake from your time in Naha.
What's included in the workshop price?
All materials, the instructor's guidance, and taxes are included. You bring nothing except yourself and leave with the finished piece you made.
