The experience
You meet your guide at Ishigaki Port and head straight to the Miyara River for a guided paddle through the mangrove forest. Choose between a stand-up paddleboard or a canoe: both come with board or boat, paddle, fins and life jacket. The guide leads you through the quiet waterway, then you return to the port to catch the ferry across to Taketomi Island.
Once you reach Taketomi, the rest of the afternoon is yours. Walk the narrow lanes lined with traditional stone walls and red-tile roofs, or head to one of the island's beaches. There's no fixed schedule for the return ferry, so you can stay as long as you want before heading back to Ishigaki. The round-trip ferry fare is included, along with a hot shower at the end of the day and digital photos from the paddle.
The operator is Okinawa-certified and all guides hold water rescue certification. Fins and masks are mandatory, and life jackets are required for everyone. The activity suits ages three and up (SUP goes to fifty-nine, canoe to sixty-five). Cancellation fees apply for late arrivals or no-shows, so confirm your meeting point the day before.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English and Japanese.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
Can I choose between a kayak and a stand-up paddleboard on the day?
Yes. You pick either a SUP or a canoe when you book, and both come with full gear: board or boat, paddle, fins, mask and life jacket. The guide leads the same mangrove route either way.
What happens after we paddle back from the mangroves?
You return to Ishigaki Port and board the round-trip ferry to Taketomi Island. Once there, you explore on your own: walk the traditional streets, visit the beaches, or sit in a café. You catch the ferry back whenever you're ready. There's no fixed return time.
Is a guide included for the Taketomi Island part?
No. The guide leads the mangrove paddle, then you explore Taketomi Island independently. You can book a separate island guide if you want one.
What's included in the three-hour time?
The paddle through the mangroves takes up most of it. The ferry crossing and your free time on Taketomi Island happen after, so the total time away from Ishigaki depends on how long you stay on the island.
Do I need to be fit to paddle, or have paddling experience?
No. The tour suits all fitness levels, ages three and up. The guide leads the pace through the mangroves, and the water is calm and sheltered. Fins, masks and life jackets are mandatory for safety.
