The experience
Shinjuku's workshop starts with your instructor explaining the background of origami and washi paper: why these materials have held meaning in Japanese craft for centuries. You'll then choose your favorite washi paper patterns from the selection on hand, each one distinct in color and design. The folding itself moves at a pace that lets you absorb each step: the instructor guides you through classic shapes like cranes or geometric designs, showing how the paper responds to each crease.
Once your folded pieces are ready, you assemble them into the item you've chosen. Pierced earrings, clip-on earrings, a necklace, or a key holder: each one uses the same origami you've just made, but the final form depends on what you pick. All the materials for both folding and assembly come with the class, so there's nothing to buy or bring. You walk out with an object you made with your own hands, not a souvenir.
