The experience
Hakata Dolls have been made in Fukuoka for 400 years. You'll work in Kawabata Arcade's best-known Hakata Doll shop, where the teacher sets up your workspace and shows you how the traditional painting is done. The instruction is in Japanese, but you get written English steps and a finished sample to follow, so the technique is clear even if the words aren't. You paint the doll yourself (the brush work, the colors, the details), and what you finish is yours to take home.
You're working alongside other people in the shop, so it's a shared class, not private. The doll itself is included. You don't buy it separately.
What’s included
- Hakata Doll to paint.
- English instructions and a sample doll to guide your work.
