The Experience

Shizuoka Sengen Shrine is one of the most famous shrines in the prefecture, and you'll pass through it on the way back from the tea farm. The ride out takes about an hour on well-maintained hybrid bikes, not e-bikes, following a route that crosses the Abekawa River. A local guide who knows the area leads the way and explains what you're seeing as you go.

At the tea farm, the farmer walks you through how tea grows and is harvested, and you get time to take photos in the fields. Then you move into their 150-year-old house, where you taste several kinds of tea. You pick one of three tastings before the tour starts: a comparison of Sencha by variety, a comparison of teas by production method (Sencha, micro-fermented, oolong, black tea), or a comparison of tea types (Sencha, kukicha, genmaicha, hojicha). You spend about an hour and a half at the house. On the way back to the station, you choose whether to stop at Shizuoka Sengen Shrine or Sumpu Castle Park.

Bottled water and a helmet are included. The tour departs from JR Shizuoka Station and returns there, so you don't need a car or a separate transfer.
