Shape, sand and oil your own chopsticks, then watch your name become Kanji.

A one-hour chopstick-making class in Namba where you choose from over 10 types of wood, hand-shape and personalize your pair, add a custom Kanji name engraving, and leave with finished chopsticks the same day. English-speaking staff guide you through each step. No experience needed, and families are welcome.

The experience

You pick your wood first (more than 10 types, each with its own color, grain and weight), then move to the shaping station. The staff walk you through sanding, smoothing and oiling by hand, adjusting the pace so beginners and experienced makers work at the same comfort level. The whole process takes about an hour from wood selection to finished pair.

The engraving is where the piece becomes yours. You work with an original Kanji dictionary to turn your name into Japanese characters, then watch the staff engrave them into the chopsticks in front of you. The studio overlooks Shinjuku, and you can browse Japanese souvenirs or check out other workshops (Kintsugi and calligraphy are offered in the same space), while you wait for the engraving to finish.

All materials and tools are provided. You leave with your chopsticks wrapped and ready to use or give as a gift. The studio is wheelchair accessible, and group bookings up to 60 guests are available if you want to bring friends or family into the workshop together.
