The Experience

Tuff Gong International is the centerpiece: a 90-minute behind-the-scenes look at how records move from rehearsal to finished album in the Caribbean's most famous state-of-the-art facility. You'll see photographs and learn the stories of the family, the band and the international icons who recorded there. The guide walks you through the "Making of the Music" process in the studio Bob Marley built, so you understand what happened in each room instead of just looking at it.

Bunny Lee Museum comes next—the home of Bunny 'Striker' Lee, the legendary producer whose work shaped Ska, Rocksteady, Reggae, Dub and Dancehall. The space holds rare records, photographs and memorabilia that show how these genres developed and spread across the world. After that, Trench Town Culture Yard on First Street puts you in the West Kingston community itself, with displays of artifacts, live music, conversations with residents and bright murals. You can hire an additional guide there to walk the streets from 1st to 7th if you want to go deeper into the neighborhood.

The Bob Marley Museum occupies his former home in Kingston, kept as it was when he lived there. You'll see his recording studio, bedroom, gold and platinum records, and the costumes of the I-Threes, his backup singers. The property has an 80-seat theatre, a photographic gallery, a record shop and a gift shop. If you want to finish the day on Orange Street (formerly Beat Street), the guide can take you to Rockers International Records and Ibo Spice Portal for Jamaican Ital food—that's optional and separate. Hotel pickup is included, and the guide speaks English throughout.
