The experience
The Bob Marley Museum occupies the house Marley bought in 1975 and lived in until 1981, converted to a museum six years later by his wife Rita. The main galleries display his personal treasures alongside a 80-seat theatre, photographic gallery, record shop and gift shop stocked with memorabilia. Private transportation picks you up from your hotel and takes you through the property at your own pace with a guide who speaks English.
Devon House, built by Jamaica's first Black millionaire George Stiebel in the late 19th century, sits at the corner of Trafalgar and Hope Roads: a spot known as Millionaire's Corner. The mansion blends Caribbean and Georgian architecture and holds an expertly curated collection of Jamaican, English and French antique pieces and reproductions. The grounds feature manicured lawns that overlook the property, and the National Heritage Trust declared it a national monument in 1990. You'll have time to explore the craft shops and ice cream parlor on the grounds. Lunch is at your own expense at the grog shop.
The tour runs seven to nine hours depending on your departure point (Ocho Rios, Runaway Bay, Falmouth or Montego Bay), and includes air-conditioned transport both ways. Entry to both museums is covered. You arrange and pay for any meal separately.
