The experience

You arrive at your Montego Bay hotel in the morning and get picked up in an air-conditioned vehicle that takes you to the Great River. There you climb onto a handcrafted 30-foot bamboo raft piloted by someone who knows the water, and float downriver. Midway through, the guide leads you to a limestone bank where the mineral-rich sediment works as a natural foot scrub. Your skin comes out smooth and soft. It's the kind of detail that catches people off guard and stays with them after the trip.

From the river you move to the ATV portion: you ride a quad bike off-road through the Jamaican countryside on dirt trails, navigating terrain that feels wilder than the resort side of the island. Then comes the horseback ride, where you lead your horse down easy trails and into the Caribbean itself for a swim. The final stop is the oceanfront zipline, where you fly over the sea and mangroves before heading back to your hotel. The whole sequence takes six hours, and the guide speaks English throughout.

The horseback trails are easy, and the ATV routes are designed for varying skill levels. The bamboo raft is piloted by the guide, so you don't operate it. All four activities suit different fitness levels, though the operator does not recommend this experience for travelers with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health.
