The experience

Your driver meets you at the Trieste cruise terminal and takes you through the Italian countryside in a modern, air-conditioned vehicle for roughly 2 to 2.5 hours. Piazzale Roma, where the vehicle stops, is the last car-accessible point in Venice. Everything beyond it requires walking or water transport. If you booked transfer only, your journey ends there. If you chose a guided option, your luggage gets stored securely and your day in Venice begins.

The walking tour option takes you through Venice on foot with a local guide who speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French or another language. You'll see the Rialto Bridge spanning the Grand Canal, explore the markets and historic shops nearby, cross into Campo San Polo, and reach St. Mark's Square: the city's central plaza ringed by historic buildings. You'll view the exterior of St. Mark's Basilica with its golden domes and mosaics, and see the Doge's Palace facade from outside. The deluxe tour replaces the walking portion with a private water taxi ride along the Grand Canal to St. Mark's Square, the same guided stops at the main landmarks, and a private gondola ride through the smaller canals before a return water taxi takes you back to Piazzale Roma. Both guided tours run roughly 4 hours.

At the end of your tour, you return to Piazzale Roma to collect your luggage. The operator can help you arrange onward transport to your Venice hotel or the airport, though those arrangements are not included in the tour price. Bring some euros in cash for toilet stops, drinks or lunch. US dollars aren't accepted in Italy. If you need to withdraw cash, ask your guide to stop at an ATM.
