The Experience
Download the app on Android, iOS or access it through your browser, then start solving quizzes about Trieste's monuments. Each location has questions that teach you something real about the place—the Castle of San Giusto built over centuries starting in the 15th century on Roman foundations, the Arco di Riccardo dating to around the 1st century BCE, the Roman Theatre built under Emperor Augustus that once held 3,500 to 6,000 spectators. You move between stops on your own schedule, answering as you go and gathering points for correct answers. The game works in English, French, German or Spanish.
The nine stops weave through central Trieste: from the Cathedral and castle on the hill down to Piazza Unità d'Italia, which became the city's main square after Trieste joined Italy in 1918; past Teatro Verdi, which opened in 1801 as one of Italy's oldest opera houses; through Piazza della Borsa, the economic hub since the 19th century; and along the Canal Grande, dug between 1754 and 1756 when Trieste was a free port under Habsburg rule. The whole route takes one to two hours depending on how long you linger at each spot.
This is not an audio tour—you read the quizzes and information on your screen. Entrance tickets to the monuments themselves are not included, so you can choose whether to go inside or simply stand outside and answer the questions. The activity suits all fitness levels and works for groups of any size, since everyone plays together on the same route.
