The experience

You meet at the Cala Manbrù terrace near Monte Stella, where the staff brief you on the basics before you get on the water. The first 30 minutes is instruction: your certified guide teaches you how to paddle, balance and move on the board in shallow water until you feel steady. After that, you paddle out into the reserve itself, a 4km stretch of coast that is one of the wildest pieces of western Sicily and protected by the WWF. Your guide points out the local plants and animals as you move through the water, telling you about what lives in and around the reserve.

The guided portion lasts 90 minutes. Once you have seen the main sites and heard the stories, you get 90 more minutes to paddle on your own, exploring at your own pace while the instructor watches from a distance. The whole activity takes 2 hours. You have access to changing rooms and the Cala Manbrù Beach Club facilities before and after.
