The experience

The trip starts from Olbia's old city harbor, following the ferry docks and mussel farms before passing the lighthouse at Isola Bocca. Once the Gulf of Olbia opens up, the sails go out. Depending on wind and conditions, the route heads toward Golfo Di Marinella or south past Isola Tavolara (a six-kilometer-long island known as the smallest kingdom in the world), and Isola Di Molara, which was inhabited from ancient times through the twentieth century. The catamaran's design gives you real choices about where to sit: the trampoline nets offer space to stretch out, the flybridge puts you near the skipper, or the cockpit gives you a view of the wake.

At the anchorage (typically Capo Coda Cavallo with its long white sandy beaches). You decide what the day holds. Snorkeling equipment, kayaks and stand-up paddle boards are all available. You can swim, paddle out, explore underwater, or stay on board in the sun or shade. Lunch is Sardinian and served once the anchor is down, so you eat when the boat has stopped for the day.

The return journey doesn't rush. The operator notes they don't watch the clock closely on the way back. A live guide speaks English, Italian, French or German throughout the day.

What is Isola Tavolara and why do people visit it?

Isola Tavolara is a six-kilometer-long island known as the smallest kingdom in the world, rising 560 meters high. It's popular with climbing enthusiasts, though the catamaran passes it rather than landing there. The stop focuses on the anchorages where you can swim and snorkel.

Lunch is included and served on board once the anchor is down. The meal is typically Sardinian, so you eat local food while anchored in the bay.

Can I bring my five-year-old on this trip?
