The experience

Two and a half hours on the water starts with a practical introduction to paddling technique and positioning, so you're ready before the kayak leaves the shore. The guide is certified and speaks English or Italian, and you'll paddle with a small group along the open coast between Levanto and Cinque Terre. The route stays away from the crowded tourist stretches, moving instead through lesser-known sections of coastline where the dramatic cliffs rise straight from the water.

Midway through, you'll pull into a secluded bay to snorkel. The water is clear enough to see below, and the guide will have positioned the group where the marine life and rock formations make the stop worthwhile. You'll have snorkeling equipment provided, along with a waterproof bag to secure anything you bring. On the return paddle, the route continues exploring the quieter parts of the coast rather than retracing the morning's path.

The kayak, paddle, lifejacket and snorkeling gear are all included. You'll also get snacks and water during the outing. Public transportation runs to the meeting point, so you don't need a car to reach Levanto. The morning sea is calmer than afternoon conditions, which is why the operator runs these trips early. It's the practical reason the experience works.
