The experience
The boat leaves Tropea's port and heads south along the coast, passing the Rotonda and Marina dell'Isola beaches before reaching the Palombaro Cave: a site visible only from the water. You'll pass the Skeleton Cave (also called the White Cave) and arrive at Riaci Bay, where the water opens into Hercules Harbor, a submerged Roman port. If conditions allow, you can jump in and dive through the white cave itself. The route then passes the Formiche rocks and Forum Erculis, an important port from the Roman Empire.
At Grotticelle Bay near Capo Vaticano, you reach the Bay of Caves: the main snorkeling stop. The white sandy seabed draws schools of fish, and snorkeling gear is provided. After your swim, the crew serves an aperitif and snacks on board. On the return journey to Tropea, you get the view of the town from the sea that makes the best photograph, and if time allows, a final swim near the Palombo Cave and Rotonda beaches.
The trip runs three hours total. A live guide speaks Italian throughout. Restroom facilities are on board. The experience is open to ages 3 and up, though beverages are for adults 18 and over.
