The Experience
The minivan picks you up from your hotel, port or airport in Trapani and heads straight to Erice, a medieval village built on a mountainside. You get free time to walk the narrow streets, see the Ericini carpet workshops, and taste the local almond cakes the town is known for. From there the route drops down to Scopello, where you stop at the tuna factory and the working harbor to photograph the boats and the waterfront.
The next stop is Castellammare del Golfo, a fishing port famous for its pani e ca—a local sandwich—before the minivan heads to the Saline Reserve. The salt pans stretch across the landscape in geometric patterns, and the museum there explains how the salt is harvested. Flamingos, windmills and the salt-making process itself are what draw people to this part of the coast. After the reserve, the driver takes you back to Trapani.
The tour runs 7 hours total with a qualified driver who speaks English or Italian. The minivan is air-conditioned, and the group stays small—no more than 8 people. Infants and small children can bring a pram or use a specialized infant seat. Entry fees to the sites, food and any guide commentary beyond the driver's knowledge are not part of the package, so budget separately for those.
