Swim and snorkel in water so clear you see the seabed

A full-day private boat tour from San Vito Lo Capo in Sicily with a small group (maximum 12 people) that stops at multiple coves, caves and beaches along the Zingaro Reserve and Scopello coast for swimming and snorkeling. The boat is a 10-meter dinghy built to reach shallow beaches and inlets where larger vessels cannot go, and snorkeling equipment is included; lunch happens in San Vito Lo Capo village after the morning stops.

8h

Step-by-step itinerary

Boat tour with swimming and visits

  • Navigate towards Zingaro nature reserve
  • Admire San Vito lo Capo beach
  • Pass by tonnara del Secco
  • Swim and snorkel near the coves
  • Visit the cave of lovers and small beach
  • Swim in Cala del Leone
  • Explore Scopello’s old tuna fishery
  • Stop for swimming and snorkeling
  • Dock at Castellammare port
  • Visit Castellammare fishing village
  • Swim and snorkel again

The Experience

The boat leaves San Vito Lo Capo and heads toward the Zingaro nature reserve, passing the beach of San Vito Lo Capo itself—one of Italy's clearest stretches of water—and the tonnara del Secco, an old tuna-fishing building that marks the shift from modern coast to protected reserve. The small size of the boat (10 meters, never more than 12 people) is what makes the next part possible: you stop at coves and shallow beaches where big tour boats must stay offshore. Near the Cave of Lovers, you'll find a small beach tucked inside a sea cave—a spot only accessible this way—and the water is clear enough to snorkel right there, mask and fins provided.

The route continues to Cala del Leone, another bathing stop with transparent water, then to Scopello's old tuna fishery (La Tonnara di Scopello), a dramatic inlet where tall rock stacks called Faraglioni rise from the sea. The seabed here is rich with detail—the reason snorkelers come—and you get time in the water to look around. Castellammare, the final stop before lunch, sits in a curved harbor backed by a castle; the village streets are walkable and the sandy shore is gentler than the rocky coves earlier in the day.

Lunch happens at the port in San Vito Lo Capo village, giving you time to walk the streets and eat local food (not included in the tour price, but the stop is built in). The boat carries restrooms, coca-cola and water throughout the day. The whole outing runs eight hours from start to finish.

What’s included

  • Snorkeling equipment (mask, fins, snorkel).

Is this one for you?The eight-hour commitment leaves the rest of your day free if you start early or finish by late afternoon, but it rules out half-day alternatives if you want to combine snorkeling with other activities. The small-boat format means you're limited to 12 people and you reach shallow coves larger tours skip—a trade that matters if you want solitude and close-up snorkeling over speed and convenience.

Top questions

What's the water like for snorkeling along this coast?

The water is crystalline and shallow enough to see the seabed clearly at most stops. The Scopello inlet and the Cave of Lovers cove are the richest spots for snorkeling, with interesting rock formations and marine life visible from the surface.

Can the boat actually reach the small beaches and caves, or do we swim to them?

The 10-meter dinghy is small enough to dock at or beach near the coves and caves—you don't swim out to them. That's the whole point of using a small boat instead of a larger tour vessel, which has to stay in deeper water offshore.

How much time do we spend swimming and snorkeling versus traveling?

The itinerary includes multiple bathing and snorkeling stops throughout the morning, with the boat moving between them. You're in the water at the Cave of Lovers, Cala del Leone, Scopello and Castellammare, plus the opening pass by San Vito Lo Capo beach.

Is snorkeling equipment included, or do I need to bring my own?

Snorkeling gear is included in the tour price. The boat carries masks, fins and snorkels for all passengers.

Where does lunch happen, and is it included?

Lunch is a stop at the port in San Vito Lo Capo village, where you can walk the streets and eat at local restaurants. Food and drinks are not included in the tour price, but the time and the docking are built into the schedule.

What's the Tonnara di Scopello, and why do we stop there?

La Tonnara di Scopello is an old tuna fishery building in a small inlet surrounded by dramatic rock stacks called Faraglioni. It's a landmark of the coast's fishing history, and the inlet is one of the best snorkeling spots on the route because the seabed is rich with marine interest.
