Rome Villa Borghese Sketching Class: Draw Fountains & Gardens
You draw at five named stops instead of walking past them.
A sketching class at Villa Borghese in Rome where you draw at five specific sites (the Sea Horse Fountain, the Aviary of the secret gardens, Piazza di Siena, the Temple of Diana, and the lakeside temples) using provided pens, pencils, markers, watercolors and paper. A live guide in English, Spanish or Italian leads the group through the park, stopping at each location long enough to sketch, color and observe.

The experience
Two and a half hours at Villa Borghese means you're not rushing between landmarks. The meeting point is Piazza Scipione Borghese at the Venus fountain, where your guide hands out the drawing tools: fineliner pens, pencils, markers, fountain pens, ballpoint pens, brushes, watercolor paints, and paper with a support tablet. You move through the park at a pace that lets you actually sit and draw, not just photograph.
The five stops are chosen for what they offer on paper. The Sea Horse Fountain with its four horses is the first real drawing subject. Piazza di Siena opens up with multiple options: Raphael's house, the clock house, the fountain of the three puppets, or the tall pine trees. The Temple of Diana sits surrounded by stone seats where you can settle in and work. Around the lake, the Temple of Aesculapius in the center and La Fonte Gaia, an Art Nouveau fountain, give you water and architecture to render. The Aviary of the secret gardens and La Meridiana fill the gaps between.
The guide speaks English, Spanish or Italian and stays with the group throughout. You bring no equipment. Everything needed for sketching is provided. The park is fully accessible, and you can bring a stroller if you're traveling with infants or small children.
