Three hours on a Segway, eight major landmarks, one guide who knows the stories.
A 3-hour Segway tour of Ravenna led by an expert local guide in a small group of up to eight people. You start with a 30-minute training session, then ride through the city's historic center to see Rocca Brancaleone, the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, Basilica San Vitale, and six other landmarks including the Orthodox Baptistery and Diocesan Museum. The guide speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and two additional languages. Minimum age is 16. The tour operates in all weather, and rain ponchos are provided.
Step-by-step itinerary
Ravenna Segway sightseeing tour
- Meet at meeting point
- Segway training session
- Segway panoramic sightseeing
- Visit Mausoleum of Galla Placidia
- Continue panoramic sightseeing
The Experience
You begin at the meeting point with a half-hour orientation on the Segway itself (how to mount, balance, steer and stop) before the guide leads you into Ravenna's streets. The training means you're ready to ride, not nervous about it, and the small group size means the pace stays steady without anyone getting left behind or held up. The guide points out the castle Rocca Brancaleone, the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia with its fifth-century mosaics, and Basilica San Vitale as you pass through Piazza Costa, Piazza del Popolo, and Piazza Duomo. The Segway covers ground faster than walking but slower than a bus, so you actually see the city instead of rolling past it.
The route includes stops at the Orthodox Baptistery and the Diocesan Museum, and the guide shares the history of each place: the colorful stories of Ravenna's past as a Roman port and Byzantine capital. Because you're on a Segway, you can cover more ground in three hours than you would on foot, reaching landmarks that are spread across the city without the fatigue. The tour runs regardless of weather. If it rains, you get a poncho and keep going.
