The experience
You'll arrive at a carefully selected local home in Cefalù and be welcomed by your Cesarina: one of Italy's network of home cooks who open their kitchens to travelers. She'll teach you how to make pizza dough and shape it the way Italian families have done for generations, then move on to tiramisu, building the layers and flavors from the ground up. This is hands-on work: you're doing the mixing, kneading and assembly yourself, not watching a demonstration.
Once you've finished cooking, you sit down to eat what you've made. The meal includes a selection of local wine, water and coffee. You'll leave with an official Le Cesarine apron and the muscle memory of how to pull off both dishes at home, which is the whole point. Families with children of all ages can join. Kids tend to remember the hands-on part better than any cooking show.
