The experience
The boat leaves with the late-afternoon light still high, and the route follows the coastline past the villages that rise straight from the water. Praiano appears first, its pastel houses stacked against the cliff face. The boat slows at the Iconic Bridge (a 30-meter stone arch famous for cliff diving), and holds there long enough for photos before moving into the smaller coves where the water turns from deep blue to something almost transparent. A swimming stop comes before the sun gets low. The water is cold enough to wake you up and warm enough that you stay in.
As the light turns gold, the crew sets out prosecco, bruschetta, ham, cheese and fresh fruit on deck. There is no formal service, no speeches. Just the sound of the waves and the soft music playing. The changing room and towels are there if you need them. WiFi works if you want to send a photo before the moment passes. Two hours is long enough to feel like an evening and short enough to fit before dinner on land.
