Pompeii archaeological tour with wine tasting and lunch
Two hours inside the city Vesuvius buried in 79 AD, then lunch and wine where the volcano still looms.
A full-day guided tour of Pompeii archaeological site with professional English-speaking guide, entrance fee, lunch and wine tasting at a vineyard on Mount Vesuvius's slopes, plus hotel or cruise ship pickup and drop-off. The tour runs eight hours total: a two-hour walk through the excavated Roman city with live commentary, then time for lunch and a wine experience at the vineyard. Vegetarian meals are available if you request them when booking; minimum age for wine tasting is 18.
The Experience
The day starts with pickup from your hotel or cruise ship port, then a drive directly to Pompeii. A professional guide leads you through the archaeological site for two hours, walking the streets and buildings preserved when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD. The guide speaks English and provides live commentary as you move through the city — the forum, the amphitheater, the homes where families lived nearly two thousand years ago.
After Pompeii, you head to a family vineyard positioned at the foot of Mount Vesuvius itself. Lunch is served there: homemade pasta made with Vesuvius tomatoes, a meat selection of the day with vegetables from their garden, salumi and cheese, and a local dessert. The wine tasting happens in the same place, so you eat and drink where the grapes grow and the volcano rises above the vines. Bottled water is provided throughout the day, and an air-conditioned minivan handles all transport between stops.
The whole experience runs eight hours. You'll need a moderate level of fitness for walking the archaeological site, and the dress code is smart casual. If you're traveling with children, they must be accompanied by an adult; specialized infant seats are available in the minivan if you're bringing very young children.

What exactly do I see during the two-hour walk through Pompeii?
The guided tour covers the most important parts of the archaeological site — the forum, amphitheater, homes, and streets of the Roman city as it was preserved by the Vesuvius eruption. Your guide provides live commentary in English on what you're standing in front of, so you understand what each building was and how people lived there.
Is lunch included, and what if I'm vegetarian?
Yes, lunch is included at the vineyard below Mount Vesuvius. The meal features homemade pasta with Vesuvius tomatoes, a meat selection of the day with garden vegetables, salumi and cheese, and local dessert. Vegetarian options are available — just let the operator know when you book if you need one.
How does the wine tasting work at the vineyard?
The wine experience happens at a family vineyard on Mount Vesuvius's slopes, where you also eat lunch. You taste wines from the vineyard itself, so the tasting and the meal happen in the same place. The minimum drinking age is 18.
Does the price include getting to Pompeii from my hotel or ship?
Yes, hotel pickup and drop-off are included, as is transport by air-conditioned minivan between your accommodation and Pompeii and the vineyard. If you're arriving by cruise ship, provide your ship name, docking time, disembarkation time and re-boarding time when you book so the timing works around your ship's schedule.
How long is the whole day, and what's the physical demand?
The full tour runs eight hours from pickup to drop-off. You'll walk the Pompeii site for two hours, so you need at least a moderate level of physical fitness. Wear smart casual clothing and comfortable walking shoes.
