The experience
The tour departs from your Amalfi Coast hotel and drives through the coastal towns toward Pompeii, arriving with skip-the-line access already arranged. Your local guide leads you through the excavated site, stopping at the Gladiator's Gym, thermal baths, the big theatre, the house of Menander, the forum, and other structures that show how Romans lived before Vesuvius buried the city. You wear a headset so you can hear the guide clearly even in crowds, and the commentary explains what each building was and how it functioned in daily life.
After lunch, the coach drives up to 1,000 meters on Mount Vesuvius, then you walk about twenty minutes each way to the summit. An alpine guide meets you there to explain the crater geology and answer questions. On clear days the view spans the entire Gulf of Naples. The entrance fee to Vesuvius (€11.68 value) is included in your booking.
On the return to the coast, the group stops at one of the region's established cameo and coral factories to watch artisans carve the traditional Italian pieces. The tour runs in English with a professional local guide from pickup to drop-off, and the air-conditioned vehicle carries everyone together. Bags larger than 30x30x15 cm can be stored on the bus during the Pompeii visit.
