The experience

The day starts in Lucca and heads toward Pisa, where you stop for photos at the Leaning Tower and walk the Piazza dei Miracoli to see the Cathedral, Baptistery and Monumental Cemetery. From there the drive to Florence cuts through the hills where the wine and olive oil production happens: the driver points out the landscape and explains how the region works. You're not on a crowded coach. The vehicle is private and air-conditioned, which changes how the day feels when you're crossing the same stretch of countryside eight times over on a typical group tour.

Florence takes up most of the day. You stop at Piazzale Michelangelo for pictures from the hilltop, then move through the center: Piazza del Duomo and the Baptistery, Piazza della Repubblica with its cafés and shops, Santa Croce Basilica (where you can break for lunch), and San Lorenzo where the Medici family is buried. The walk through Piazza della Signoria shows you Palazzo Vecchio, the replica of Michelangelo's David, and the sculptures in the Loggia dei Lanzi. You finish on Ponte Vecchio, the old bridge lined with leather shops, with free time to browse the market before heading back.

The driver speaks English throughout and provides context as you move. You can choose between the Regular Tour or the Extended Guided Tour at checkout: the extended version adds more time and detail in Florence. Either way, you return to Lucca on schedule.

Top questions

What exactly do you see at the Leaning Tower of Pisa on this tour?

You stop for photos at the tower itself and walk the Piazza dei Miracoli, where the Cathedral, Baptistery and Monumental Cemetery stand alongside it. The stop is built around taking pictures and seeing the square, not climbing the tower or entering the buildings.

How much time do you actually spend in Florence?

Most of the 8-hour day is spent in Florence. The itinerary covers ten stops across the city center (from Piazzale Michelangelo down through the Duomo, Republic Square, Santa Croce, San Lorenzo, Piazza della Signoria and Ponte Vecchio) with time to walk between them and free time for lunch and shopping.

Is lunch included, or do I need to find my own food?

Lunch is not included in the tour price. You have a scheduled stop at Santa Croce Basilica where you can eat and shop. The driver will point you toward options, but you pay separately for food and drinks.

What's the difference between the Regular Tour and the Extended Guided Tour?

Both tours follow the same route and stops. The Extended Guided Tour adds more time and deeper commentary from the guide in Florence. Choose it if you want a slower pace and more detail about what you're seeing.

Do you need to pay extra to enter the attractions like the Duomo or Palazzo Vecchio?

Entry fees to attractions are not included in the tour price. The itinerary includes stops and photos at these sites, but if you want to go inside any building, you pay the entrance fee separately at the site.

Why travel by private vehicle instead of a group bus?

A private air-conditioned vehicle means you're not packed onto a crowded coach with forty other people. The smaller group also makes it easier to stop for photos, ask the driver questions, and move at a pace that works for your group rather than a fixed schedule for a large tour.
