The experience
The CruiserCar itself is the vehicle: a 9-seater open-air cabriolet that lets you move through the city without the barrier of a bus window. You'll pass Teatro Massimo, Italy's largest opera house, then stop at Quattro Canti, the baroque crossroads where four ornate facades meet at the heart of the old city. From there the route takes in Palermo Cathedral (a blend of Gothic, Arab and Norman styles), and the Pretoria Fountain in its namesake square, a 16th-century sculpture garden that earned the nickname "Square of Shame" for the nudity of its statues.
The Capo Market is a working street market where the tour pauses so you can move through the stalls of fresh fish, produce and Sicilian goods. If you've booked the extended option, the route continues inland to Monreale, where the cathedral's interior is covered in gold Byzantine mosaics. You'll also walk the Benedictine cloister and get views across the Conca d'Oro valley back toward Palermo. The Capuchin Catacombs, unique to that option, house thousands of mummified remains in corridors that document Sicilian funerary practice over centuries.
A licensed driver and a live guide (Cicero) travel with the group. Bottled water, snacks and a choice of prosecco, beer or other refreshments are served on board. The tour is wheelchair accessible, and infant seats are available if you're traveling with small children.
