Step-by-step itinerary
Winery tours, town visit, and lunch
- Tour and taste at first boutique winery
- Explore Montepulciano town and main square
- Enjoy 3-4 course lunch with wine pairing
The experience
Six to eight hours covers the whole arc: pickup at your hotel, a drive into the Tuscan countryside with a small group and a local guide, then two separate winery visits before lunch. The first stop is a boutique Montepulciano winery where you taste the local reds in the cellar itself: the underground rooms where the wine ages. From there the route climbs into the Medieval town of Montepulciano, a Renaissance hilltop with views across the Val d'Orcia, and you walk the main square and artisan workshops before entering a historic winery or a family-run boutique operation for a second tasting.
Lunch happens at yet another Nobile di Montepulciano winery, where a 3-course meal of traditional Tuscan dishes pairs with four wines from the region: wines made here since the sixteenth century. The air-conditioned vehicle waits between stops, and bottled water travels with you. An English-speaking driver-guide stays at your disposal for the full day, handling the route and the commentary.

Top questions
What exactly do I taste at the two wineries before lunch?
The two boutique wineries specialize in Montepulciano reds, the local wine of the region. You taste in the cellar at the first stop, then again at the second winery in town. Both are family-run operations focused on high-quality production.
How much time do I spend walking around Montepulciano itself?
After the first winery tasting, you walk through the Medieval town to explore the main square, the artisan workshops and the Renaissance architecture before entering the second winery. The exact time depends on the group's pace, but it is built into the six to eight hour day.
Is the lunch included in the price, or do I pay separately?
Lunch is included: a 3-course meal of local specialties paired with four wines, all served at a Montepulciano winery. It is part of the full-day package.
Do I need to arrange my own transport to the meeting point, or does the pickup come to my hotel?
Hotel pickup and drop-off are included. The guide collects you at your hotel or its immediate surroundings and returns you there at the end of the day.
Is this tour suitable if I'm not a wine expert?
Yes. The tour is suitable for all physical fitness levels and is built around tasting and learning in the cellars themselves, with a guide who speaks English and can explain what you are tasting.
