Taste Sangiovese surrounded by barrels in a centuries-old cellar

A 90-minute wine tasting at Fattoria Svetoni in Montepulciano, where you tour the winery, then taste four Sangiovese-based wines (Rosato, Rosso di Montepulciano, Nobile di Montepulciano, and a Selection of Vino Nobile La Croce) inside the centuries-old cellar, paired with Tuscan cold cuts, cheese and vegetables. A live guide in English or Italian leads both the winery tour and the tasting. Water is included.

The experience

Ninety minutes starts with a walk through Fattoria Svetoni, one of Montepulciano's oldest leopoldina farmhouses, where the guide explains how the winery built its reputation over centuries. The cellar itself is the heart of the experience: you descend into a space lined with barrels, where the air carries the smell of aging wine and the guide pours four wines focused on Sangiovese, the region's signature grape. Each wine pairs with a platter of typical Tuscan cold cuts (prosciutto, salame, cheese, vegetables) that the operator sources locally.

The tasting moves through the wines in sequence: the lighter Rosato first, then the Rosso di Montepulciano, followed by the fuller Nobile di Montepulciano, and finishing with the Selection of Vino Nobile La Croce. The guide talks through each one as you taste, and the barrels surrounding you are part of the setting, not a backdrop. Bottled water comes with the tasting, and the cellar is wheelchair accessible if you need it.
