The experience
Caprera, Spargi, Budelli and Santa Maria fill a single day of sailing, each island a stop rather than a destination you rush through. The boat itself sets the pace: a vintage sailing vessel with large shaded areas, new cushions and enough space that you are not crowded against other passengers. The crew navigates the passages between islands and knows the small hidden coves where snorkeling happens away from the crowds: the kind of anchorage a tour bus will never reach.
Snorkeling gear is on board and ready. You decide when to enter the water and when to stay on deck with a book or music, watching the islands pass. The aperitif arrives with local land and sea products, and lunch is a first course built around what the fishermen brought in that morning. Soda, water, coffee and tea flow throughout the day. Seven to eight hours aboard means you leave early and return with time left in the afternoon, not collapsing into dinner.
The tour runs small enough that the guide can answer questions and point out the routes between islands without shouting over an engine. Service animals are welcome on board, and the operator notes the tour suits all fitness levels: the sailing itself asks nothing of your legs, though stepping aboard and into the water are part of the day.

Is this one for you?The boat sails for seven to eight hours, so you are on the water most of the day. Bring sunscreen and a hat, and plan to be comfortable sitting and swimming rather than walking. The small group size and the guide's knowledge of hidden coves mean you snorkel where larger tours cannot reach, trading the speed of a motorboat for the pace of sail and the quiet of a vintage vessel.
