Paddle through rock passages, past working Trabocchi, and into shallow coves where the seabed shows through

Kayak the Adriatic coast near Fossacesia in a three-hour excursion through narrow rock passages, under the wooden load-bearing structures of traditional Trabocchi fishing platforms, and into small coves reachable only by sea. A live guide in English or Italian leads groups of mixed ages. Kayaks, paddles, life jackets and insurance are provided. Children from age six can paddle in double kayaks with an adult.

The experience

The route threads through the distinctive architecture of the Trabocchi (wooden fishing structures that jut into the water), and navigates passages between rocks that open onto calm, shallow bays. You'll paddle in sit-in kayaks, which sit lower in the water than open canoes and let you move closer to the seabed in the shallowest sections. The guide times the route to pass under the load-bearing supports of the Trabocchi and skim the marine plants that surface in the water, then leads a stop near one structure where you can swim in the protected waters inside the natural cliffs.

Fuggitella beach marks one point along the route, but most of the morning stays on the water. The three-hour window means you're back by early afternoon, leaving time for lunch or other plans in the area. Public transport runs nearby if you're not driving.

What’s included

  • Sit-in kayak, paddle and life jacket for each participant.
  • a live guide in English or Italian.
  • insurance.
