Step-by-step itinerary
Explore Florence Cathedral and Bell Tower
- Climb Giotto’s Bell Tower
- Enjoy 360-degree city panorama
- Climb Brunelleschi’s Dome
- View architectural and artistic masterpieces
The Experience
You arrive at the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore and walk straight past the queue at the door. The skip-the-line tickets mean you enter at your assigned time instead of standing outside. The Dome and Bell Tower each have a specific slot, but the Baptistery and the museum are open whenever you want during those 72 hours. Brunelleschi's Dome is the engineering feat that changed Renaissance architecture: the double-shell brick structure rises 114 meters and the climb takes you through the inner and outer shells to a platform inside the cupola itself, where you stand among the frescoes and look down into the Cathedral. From there, most people continue up to Giotto's Bell Tower, which stands 84.7 meters tall and delivers a 360-degree view of Florence's rooftops, the Arno, and the hills beyond.
The Baptistery of San Giovanni sits directly across the piazza and holds Ghiberti's bronze "Gates of Paradise". The doors are replicas now, but the originals are in the Opera del Duomo Museum, which your ticket includes. The Cathedral itself is vast and mostly empty inside, a contrast to the exterior. The stained-glass windows and the few Renaissance paintings are worth the time. Cathedral Santa Reparata, the earlier church that stood on this site, is below ground level and accessible through a separate entrance. It is a quieter stop and most visitors skip it, but the archaeological layers show Florence's building history. The 72-hour window means you can split the climbs across two days if the stairs feel like too much in one afternoon, or you can do both in a morning and spend the rest of your time elsewhere.

Top questions
Can children come?
7 to 14 years; under 7, free.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. No refund if you cancel.
Can I climb both the Dome and the Bell Tower on the same day?
Yes. Your timed slots are separate for each, so you can climb the Dome in the morning and the Bell Tower in the afternoon, or vice versa. Most visitors do both in one day. The climbs together take about two hours of actual stair time.
What is the climb inside Brunelleschi's Dome actually like?
The Dome climb is 463 steps total, split between the inner and outer shells. You walk between the two brick layers (a narrow passage that is part of the engineering itself), then emerge onto a platform inside the cupola where you can see the frescoes up close before continuing to the top. The Bell Tower is 414 steps and a straighter climb with no interior passages.
Do I need to book a specific time for the Baptistery and the museum?
No. Only the Dome and the Bell Tower have timed slots. The Baptistery and the Opera del Duomo Museum are included and open during normal hours. You walk in whenever you want during your 72-hour window.
How long is the 72-hour access valid from?
The 72 hours begin when you first use any part of your ticket, so if you climb the Dome on day one, you have until the same time on day four to visit the Baptistery, the museum and the other sites.
What are the "Gates of Paradise" and where do I see them?
Ghiberti's "Gates of Paradise" are the famous bronze doors of the Baptistery, cast in the 15th century and covered in ten scenes from the Old Testament. The originals are preserved in the Opera del Duomo Museum, included with your ticket. The Baptistery itself displays replicas on the doors.
