The Experience

You leave Trapani port in the morning and spend 30 minutes on the boat reaching Favignana, where the skipper points out the small islands and their history as you cross. The first stop is Cala Azzurra—white sand and clear water where you put on the snorkeling gear and swim among the shallows to see the colors of the Mediterranean. After an hour of exploring, you come back on board for an aperitif: Prosecco, Aperol Spritz or Campari Spritz with peanuts, chips and spicy snacks, or soft drinks if you prefer.

The boat then takes you to Bue Marino, a sea cave where monk seals once sheltered, and Cala Rossa, a bay ringed by red rocks and turquoise water with a history reaching back to the Roman-Carthaginian wars. You snorkel again at each stop. The last Favignana site is the Grotto of Lovers, a cave with crystal water ranging from blue to emerald where rock formations inside are said to look like two people embracing. Once the boat moors at Favignana port, lunch is served on board: cunzato bread with tomatoes, oil and anchovies; arancine with butter or meat; fresh pizzas; seasonal fruit; house wine, water and soft drinks. After eating, you have an hour to walk the narrow streets of the village, visit craft shops and taste local products before heading back to the boat.

The afternoon takes you to Levanzo, starting at Cala Dogana, the main port where sailboats and fishermen work. You continue to Cala Fredda, a small beach tucked between limestone cliffs with calm water for snorkeling and a history of freshwater springs that supplied sailors for centuries. A light refreshment—fresh seasonal fruit and a glass of cantaloupe liqueur—comes next on board. The final stop is Cala Minnola, a pebble and sand beach where the seabed invites snorkeling and the cove itself was an anchorage for Phoenicians, Greeks and Romans. The boat returns to Trapani as the day ends.

How much time do I spend snorkeling versus traveling between stops?

The 8-hour tour includes a 30-minute boat ride from Trapani to Favignana, then multiple snorkeling stops on Favignana in the morning, an hour on the island of Favignana after lunch, and snorkeling stops on Levanzo in the afternoon before returning to Trapani. Yes, after lunch you have one hour on the island to walk the village, visit craft shops, taste local products and experience the atmosphere of the old town before returning to the boat for the afternoon stops on Levanzo.

What should I bring or wear for this tour?

Snorkeling equipment is provided on board. Bring a swimsuit, towel, sunscreen and a light layer for sun protection. The boat is open to the sea, so the sun exposure is direct throughout the day.
