The Experience

The evening starts at 6:30 p.m. with a walk through the vineyard terraces and into the ancient cellars, where Elio walks you through the winery's history—how his great-grandfather Lorenzo Basileo started the operation in 1880 and how the family still picks grapes by hand using methods that have held for generations. The terraces sit 400 meters above sea level, laid out on slopes under traditional wooden pergolas. You move through the working cellar with someone who knows every corner of it.

After the tour, you sit down to dinner that Maria has prepared. She's Elio's mother and the kitchen here is hers. The meal comes under the open sky, lit by stars and the moon. Spaghetti with cheese and peppers is on the menu. The whole experience runs about three hours and includes the wine, the food and the guide.
