Five villages, one boat, one day from the Tuscan coast

A nine-hour private tour from Livorno reaches Cinque Terre National Park by minivan, then travels between its five UNESCO-listed villages by ferry-boat (or train if weather requires it). You visit Riomaggiore, Manarola, Vernazzo and Monterosso, with time to swim or eat lunch at the largest village and its beaches.

Explore Cinque Terre villages by minivan and ferry

  • Travel from Livorno by minivan
  • Visit Riomaggiore village
  • Visit Manarola village
  • Visit Vernazza village
  • Lunch or swim in Monterosso

The experience

The tour starts with a minivan pickup from your cruise ship or hotel in Livorno, then heads south along the Tuscan coast to reach the first village. Once there, you board a ferry-boat that moves between the villages clinging to the cliffs (Riomaggiore, Manarola, Vernazzo and Monterosso), letting you see the terraced vineyards and pastel buildings from the water. If weather turns rough and the ferry doesn't run, the same route works by regional train instead, so the villages stay reachable either way.

Monterosso is the largest of the five and where the tour leaves you the most time. It has the only real beach in Cinque Terre, so you can swim if the season allows, or find a restaurant and eat lunch while the other villages stay quiet around you. The minivan and guide stay with you for the full nine hours, so the pace is yours to set at each stop.

You choose at checkout whether to add a tour guide who speaks English or Italian for the day, or to explore the villages on your own. Either way, ferry tickets and lunch are separate costs: the operator estimates ferry or train tickets at around 30 euros per person, less for children. The boat schedule depends on the weather. In winter or rough seas, the train becomes the link between villages, but the stops and the time stay the same.

What’s included

  • Private minivan transport with air conditioning.
  • cruise ship pickup and drop-off direct to your ship.
  • a tour guide for the full day (if you choose the option with a guide).
  • public boats or trains between villages subject to weather.

Is this one for you?Choose the option with a guide if you want context about each village and the terraced vineyards. Pick the independent option if you prefer to explore at your own pace and save the guide cost. The nine-hour length fits a port day from Livorno, though you'll need to budget separately for ferry tickets, lunch and any time you spend swimming or eating in Monterosso.

Top questions

What languages is the tour guided in?

Live guide in English and Italian.

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Child (3 to 17 years): free; Infant (under 3): free.

What are the five villages in Cinque Terre and which ones do we visit on this tour?

Cinque Terre has five villages total: Monterosso, Vernazzo, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore. This tour visits four of them (Riomaggiore, Manarola, Vernazzo and Monterosso) traveling between them by ferry-boat or train depending on the weather.

Is there hiking involved on this tour?

No hiking is part of this tour. You travel between villages by minivan, ferry-boat or train, so it suits people who want to see Cinque Terre without walking the coastal paths.

What happens if the ferry-boat doesn't run because of bad weather?

When ferry-boats cannot operate, the tour uses regional trains to connect the villages instead. The stops and the full nine-hour itinerary stay the same. Only the transport between villages changes.

Can we swim at any of the villages?

Monterosso has the only beach in Cinque Terre and is where the tour gives you the most time. Swimming is possible during warmer months. In winter the beach is there but the water is cold.

Do we need to buy ferry or train tickets separately?

Yes, ferry-boat or train tickets between villages are not included in the tour price. The operator estimates around 30 euros per person for the day. Children pay less based on their age.
