The Experience

I’d never really thought I’d go paragliding in Cefalù—honestly, heights aren’t my thing. But something about the idea of seeing Sicily from up there just got under my skin. When we met our pilot at this dusty little parking lot (the landing spot, apparently), he greeted us like old friends. The car ride up was full of half-English, half-Italian jokes—our guide Marco pointed out the olive trees and said something about his grandmother making the best caponata in town. I could smell the sea even before we left the ground.

The briefing was quick but not rushed—just enough to make me feel like I wasn’t going to accidentally launch myself into a tree. They strapped me into the harness and handed me a helmet that felt slightly too big, but maybe that’s just my head.
