You board in Sorrento and head out on a traditional wooden gozzo, the kind built for these waters. The skipper navigates while your guide points out the landscape—the cliffs rising straight from the sea, the villages of Positano and Praiano stacked on the slopes above, the Emerald Grotto where the water turns a color that looks unreal. The boat moves at a pace you set; if you want to linger at a cove or skip ahead to Capri, the crew adjusts. Most days include a swim stop where the water is clear enough to see the bottom.

Capri itself is the centerpiece. The Faraglioni—three limestone stacks that rise from the sea like a gate—come into view as you round the island. The Blue Grotto sits on the north coast, a sea cave where the light bounces off the water and turns everything blue; you can swim inside or stay in the boat depending on the swell and your preference. Marina Grande, the main harbor, and Marina Piccola on the south side both offer anchoring and swimming. The Coral Grotto, White Grotto, and Green Grotto are smaller but often less crowded. The return journey follows the Amalfi Coast—a UNESCO site that runs from Capri back toward Sorrento. Tordigliano, Isola Li Galli, Crapolla, Fornillo, Laurito, Arienzo, Praiano, Conca dei Marini, and Amalfi itself all pass by. The cliffs here are sheer, the villages are small, and the terraces of lemon trees climb the slopes behind them. Snorkeling gear is on board; bottled water, snacks, and drinks are free. The restroom is below deck. A hostess or guide stays with you the whole time, answering questions and helping with anything you need.
