The Experience

Day one starts in Bari Vecchia, the old town, where you walk from the Swabian Castle through the narrow streets to the Orecchiette Pasta Street—the heart of where locals still make the town's signature pasta by hand. A focaccia tasting breaks the morning, then you move inside the Museo Nicolaiano before heading to the St. Nicholas Basilica, a 1,000-year-old church built in the Pugliese Romanesque style. The crypt and the full basilica get their own visit; the guide covers the religious history and the story of San Nicholas of Myra, the figure behind the Santa Klaus legend. You stay overnight at a small historical apartment with all the comforts.

Day two shifts to the coast. The Lungomare—Europe's largest waterfront—stretches across the city, and you walk it starting from the Bari Vecchia seafront, moving through the Murat district where Liberty-style, Rococo and Baroque buildings line the streets alongside 17th-century opera houses. A coffee break and gelato are built in. The tour ends at the Pinacoteca, a Renaissance-era culture house holding paintings and sculptures by important local artists. You return to your accommodation for the second night.
