Taste your way through four generations of Sicilian farming

Baglio Ingardia is a tasting activity at a family-owned farm near Trapani where you walk the baronial garden, then sit at a table for guided tastings of organic wine and Grand Cru EVO oil. The Ingardia family has worked this eighteenth-century property for four generations, and the tasting includes water and homemade taralli. A live guide leads the experience in English, Spanish or Italian, and the whole visit runs about ninety minutes. You choose one of three tasting options at checkout: Natural Wine Tasting, Oil and Wine Tasting, or Discovery Tasting.

The experience

You arrive at the main courtyard of the Baglio and begin with a walk through the baronial garden, moving through the property on foot before settling into the tasting room: the farm's historic cooper. The guide walks you through the olive groves and vineyard, explaining the territory and how the Ingardia family grows both crops using organic methods. By the time you sit down, you've seen where the wine and oil come from.

At the table, the technical tasting begins. Water and a basket of homemade breadsticks and taralli sit in front of you as the guide leads you through the flavors and production methods of the products. The tasting option you picked at checkout determines which wines and oils you sample: Natural Wine Tasting focuses on the wine alone, Oil and Wine Tasting pairs both, and Discovery Tasting introduces you to the range. The guide speaks English, Spanish or Italian depending on your group.

The whole experience takes about ninety minutes from courtyard to tasting room. The farm sits on the outskirts of Trapani, and you'll need your own transport to reach it. Service animals are welcome, and the walk and sitting are suitable for all fitness levels. If you're under eighteen, you won't be served alcohol, but you'll still taste the oils and participate fully in the tasting.
