The experience

How do you see the Amalfi Coast without spending a day in a tour bus? You ride it on a Vespa. The route threads through Atrani, a village so small and so filmed (The Equalizer 3, Italian cinema classics) that it feels like stepping into a screen. From there the guide takes you to Furore Fjord, the dramatic gorge where Red Bull cliff divers launch themselves into the water, and if you're picked up from Positano or Sorrento, to Praiano, perched between the sea and sky with views across to Capri. The second half is the Lemon Path, the old trail that connected the coastal villages when lemons were currency. You walk it now through terraced groves, olive trees and vineyards, the sea below, learning how the "lemon carriers" moved the fruit down the mountainside.
