The experience

The route starts in Alghero and heads inland on a secondary path traditionally used by shepherds to move between their lands. As the Jeep climbs, the guide explains the native plants of the Mediterranean scrub and their historical uses, then points out the contrasts between the coastal town and the uninhabited terrain around it. The landscape shifts as you reach a cork oak forest, where you'll learn how cork is harvested and processed. A trade that has shaped this region for centuries.

The panoramic viewpoint comes midway through the morning, offering a vista of the entire Gulf of Alghero from a vantage point most visitors never reach. Binoculars and a spotting scope are on hand to watch for griffon vultures, the large raptors that ride the thermals above the coast. From there, the Jeep descends to an archaeological park built around a Nuragic village, where the guide walks you through the history and culture of the civilization that built these stone structures thousands of years ago. Entry and interpretation are included.

The return follows the coast, with a final stop at a nearby beach for a Sardinian aperitif: pecorino cheese, fresh ricotta, two types of local bread, Sardinian sausage, Vermentino white wine, Cannonau red wine, and myrtle liqueur. The whole day runs five hours from start to finish.

Top questions

What languages is the guide in?

Live guide in English and Italian.

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Child (12 to 17 years). Under 12: they can't be included in the booking.

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

What's the difference between this Jeep tour and a regular bus tour of Alghero?

The Land Rover 110 goes off-road onto the shepherd's path and into terrain a standard vehicle cannot reach, getting you to the panoramic viewpoint and the archaeological park without staying on main roads. The smaller group size, eight passengers maximum, also means the guide can stop longer at each site and adjust the pace.

Will I actually see griffon vultures on this tour?

Griffon vultures live in the cliffs above the Gulf of Alghero, and the panoramic viewpoint is positioned to spot them. The guide carries binoculars and a spotting scope to help you see them at distance, but sightings depend on the season and weather. They are most active in spring and summer.

What exactly is the Nuragic archaeological park, and how much time do we spend there?

The Nuragic civilization built stone structures across Sardinia thousands of years ago, and this park preserves a village site with those ruins. The guide leads an interpretation of the site as part of the tour. The exact time spent depends on the group's pace and questions, but it is a substantial stop, not a quick photo.

Is this tour rough riding, or is it comfortable enough for someone who gets motion sickness?

The Jeep does leave the main road onto a secondary path, so there is some off-road driving, but it is not extreme terrain. If you suffer from motion sickness, let the operator know when you book and they will reserve the front seat for you, which reduces the motion significantly.

What's included in the Sardinian aperitif at the end?

The aperitif features pecorino cheese, fresh ricotta, pane carasau and pane guttiau (two traditional Sardinian breads), Sardinian sausage, Vermentino white wine, Cannonau red wine, and Sardinian red myrtle liqueur. It is served at a beach stop before the return to Alghero.

Do I need to arrange my own transport to the starting point in Alghero?

Yes, the tour does not include hotel pickup. Public transportation options are available nearby the meeting point in Alghero, or you can arrange a taxi or rental car to get there.
