Step-by-step itinerary

Dingle Bay Rib Boat Tour

  • Board RIB boat in Dingle
  • Explore wild coastline and sea caves
  • View Blasket Islands and Slea Head
  • Spot wildlife: seals, dolphins, puffins
  • Listen to captain's local history and geology
  • Experience thrilling rib boat ride

The Experience

The RIB boat leaves from Dingle and heads straight out along the coastline, where the captain brings the cliffs and geology to life. You'll pass towering rock formations and sea caves that are only visible from the water, and reach the Blasket Islands — the landscape most visitors see only from the shore. The boat's speed and maneuverability let it get close to details the bigger tour boats miss, and the small group of 12 means you're not competing for space or the captain's attention.

Wildlife sightings depend on the season. April through August brings puffins; year-round you might see great seals hauled out on rocks, dolphins moving through the bay, and occasionally minke whales. Red deer sometimes appear along the cliffs. The captain knows the waters — the company was founded in 2018 by Jimmy Flannery, a lifelong Dingle man who spent 37 years on these waters before starting the business. That experience shows in how the boat moves and what the commentary covers.

Waterproof jackets, waterproof pants and life jackets are all provided, so you don't need to bring your own gear. The tour runs 3 hours and combines the adrenaline of a fast boat with the natural history of the peninsula — it's often the highlight of a Dingle visit.

Top questions

What wildlife might I see on the Dingle Sea Safari?

Depending on the season, you might spot great seals, puffins (April to August), dolphins, minke whales and red deer along the cliffs. Sightings vary with weather and time of year, but the captain knows where to look and what's been active recently.

What's included with the tour and what do I need to bring?

Waterproof jackets, waterproof pants and life jackets are all provided. You don't need to bring your own gear — just wear clothes you don't mind getting wet and bring a camera if you want one.

How many people go on each RIB boat?

The boat is limited to 12 passengers per departure, which keeps the group small and gives everyone a good view and a chance to hear the captain's commentary.

What is the Slea Head landscape and why is it better seen from the water?

Slea Head is the iconic dramatic coastline of the Dingle Peninsula, famous for its towering cliffs and rock formations. From land, visitors see it from a distance; the RIB boat gets you close enough to see the detail of the cliffs, the sea caves and the geology that make it distinctive.

Is this tour suitable for children?

Children are welcome from age 9. The boat is fast and thrilling, so younger children may find it intense, but kids who are comfortable with speed and water will enjoy it.
