The experience

Two and a half hours on a 11.5-meter RIB means speed enough to cover ground and reach the islands where the seals, dolphins and puffins actually are. You'll explore hidden coves and sea caves as the boat moves through the domain of these animals, and the skipper (Declan, a marine biologist) narrates what you're seeing and answers questions as they come up. Wildlife sightings shift with the season, so you might encounter whales, you might not, but the route itself is the point: the sandstone cliffs, the caves carved into them, the islands at the edge of Europe.

The boat leaves from Dingle Yacht Marina, and you'll wear a waterproof jacket, spray pants and a lifejacket for the ride. The speed and the spray are part of the experience (this is not a gentle cruise), so the gear keeps you dry and safe while the boat moves. Groups stay small, capped at 12 passengers, which means you're not packed in and the skipper can actually talk to people instead of shouting over a crowd.

Tours run weather permitting, so the sea state decides whether you go. Minimum age is 9 years old. If you have spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health or are pregnant, this tour isn't a fit because the boat's motion and speed make it unsafe.
