The experience

The Mercedes-Benz picks you up from Foynes Harbour at whatever hour suits your day. Your chauffeur (professional and courteous, though not a certified tour guide) drives you through the Wild Atlantic Way into County Clare, stopping where you want to linger. The Cliffs of Moher come first: up to 2 hours to walk the clifftop paths, stand at the edge and take in the Atlantic views, or simply sit with the scale of it. The chauffeur can point out the landscape and history along the way, but the time is yours to spend as you choose.

After the Cliffs, the route moves inland into the Burren, one of Europe's most unusual geological formations. Limestone pavements carved into deep fissures called grykes create a moonscape of pale stone and hidden vegetation. The tour passes Doonagore Castle, stops in Doolin for lunch (your choice of restaurant or café), and includes Poulnabrone Dolmen, a 5,000-year-old stone burial chamber standing alone in the karst landscape. Newtown Castle is another optional stop. The chauffeur drives at a pace that lets you absorb the terrain rather than rush through it.

The vehicle is air-conditioned with WiFi on board, bottled water and phone chargers provided. Child seats are available on request. You return to Foynes after the full loop, with the flexibility to skip sites, extend time at any stop, or adjust the itinerary on the day itself. The private format means the route bends to what interests you, not the other way around.

Top questions

How long do I spend at the Cliffs of Moher itself?

Up to 2 hours. The chauffeur drops you at the clifftop visitor area and you walk the paths, viewpoints and edges at your own pace. The time is unstructured so you can linger as long as you want.

What is the Burren landscape actually like when I get there?

The Burren is a vast expanse of exposed limestone with deep cracks called grykes running through pale stone pavements. It looks almost lunar: sparse vegetation, no trees, and a sense of walking across an ancient, weathered surface. Poulnabrone Dolmen, a 5,000-year-old stone tomb, sits alone in this landscape.

Can I choose which stops to visit, or is the route fixed?

You choose. The itinerary includes Doonagore Castle, Doolin village, Poulnabrone Dolmen and Newtown Castle as options, but you can skip any of them, spend more time at others, or ask the chauffeur to take a different route through the Burren based on what interests you.

Is lunch included, and where do I eat?

Lunch is not included in the tour price. Doolin is a lunch stop where you select your own restaurant or café and eat at your own cost. The chauffeur waits and you rejoin when ready.

What's the difference between the chauffeur and a tour guide?

The chauffeur is a professional driver who knows the route, can point out landmarks and share local history, but is not a certified tour guide. You get comfortable, flexible transport and local knowledge without a scripted commentary.
