The experience
Kuta Beach is the beginner's break in Bali. The waves are forgiving and the sand is wide. Your instructor arrives focused on you alone, not splitting attention across a group. The first 90 minutes start on shore: you learn how surfing works before you touch the water, so when you paddle out you already know what your body is supposed to do. The instructor watches how you move, suggests a different angle if one isn't working, and stays close enough to adjust your position on the board in real time.
Most first-timers stand up during the lesson. If you're already comfortable on the board, the instructor shifts to teaching you how to read the wave and catch your own instead of waiting for one to be positioned for you. At the break between sessions, you review what just happened: what felt right, what didn't, why. At the end, you get an honest read on what level you're ready for next, so if you want to keep surfing in Bali you know which lesson to book.
You leave with a photo or video from the session, your own board and rashguard for the water, and sunscreen or zinc to keep the sun from burning you while you learn. The lesson doesn't include a ride to the beach, so you'll need to arrange your own way there or book transport separately.
Is this one for you?The 90-minute lesson fits easily into a morning or afternoon without eating your whole day, leaving time to explore Kuta or rest before evening plans. One-on-one instruction means the pace stays with you, not rushed through a group, not slowed down waiting for others to catch up.

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
Can I really stand up on a surfboard in my first lesson?
Most first-timers do stand up during the 90 minutes. Your instructor focuses entirely on your technique and timing, making adjustments as you practice. If you don't stand up in this session, the instructor will show you exactly what to work on for your next lesson.
What happens if I've never surfed before and I'm nervous about the ocean?
The lesson starts on the sand with a full explanation of how surfing works before you enter the water. Your instructor stays with you the whole time you're in the ocean and keeps you in shallow water where you can stand. Kuta Beach is chosen specifically because the waves are gentle for beginners.
Do I need to bring my own surfboard and wetsuit?
No. The lesson includes a surfboard, rashguard, and sunscreen or zinc. You bring only yourself and a swimsuit underneath the rashguard.
What's included in the photo or video I get at the end?
The instructor captures photos or video during your session in the water so you can see yourself surfing. This is included with the lesson. You'll have a record of your first time on the board.
Is this lesson on the same beach where I can surf on my own later?
Yes. Kuta Beach is where the lesson happens, and it's the main beginner break in Bali. Once you finish the lesson, you'll know the spot and can return to practice or book another session.
