The experience
You spend the morning on two wheels, cycling through the villages and farmland that surround Yogyakarta's temples. The route passes rice fields, corn crops and vegetable plots where farmers work, then arrives at Sari Temple, a former Buddhist monastery. From there you continue to Plaosan Temple, also called the Twin Temple or Romantic Temple, where your guide explains the architecture that blends Hindu and Buddhist styles: a rare combination in stone. The final stop is Sambisari, an underground Hindu temple smaller than the others but layered with history and detail.
The tour is built around cycling, not sitting in a vehicle. You move at a pace that lets you see the countryside change and talk to your guide about what you're passing. Lunch and bottled water are provided, and the guide speaks English. A private vehicle picks you up from your hotel and brings you back when the ride is done, so you don't need to arrange transport to the starting point.
Is this one for you?You cycle the whole route yourself, so this suits travelers who are comfortable on a bike for several hours and want to move through the landscape rather than observe it from a vehicle. The guide handles the history and navigation, leaving you free to focus on the ride and the countryside.
