The Experience
We kicked off our day just after sunrise, when the air still felt cool and the streets around Seminyak were waking up. Our driver, Wayan, greeted us with a grin and two cold bottles of water—honestly, that little touch was a lifesaver later in the heat. I’d scribbled down a few places I wanted to see, but Wayan had some ideas too. He suggested we swing by a small warung near Ubud for breakfast—turns out their banana pancakes are famous with locals. The car was spotless and the AC worked like a charm, which made those longer stretches between temples and rice fields way more comfortable.
Mid-morning, as we drove past endless green terraces in Tegallalang, Wayan pointed out a tiny roadside stand selling fresh coconut water. We stopped for a quick drink—the vendor even let us try cracking one open ourselves (not as easy as it looks). The best part? There was no rush. If we wanted to linger at Tirta Empul or snap photos at Tegenungan Waterfall, it was totally up to us. Having someone who knows every shortcut and back road meant we skipped most of the traffic jams too. By late afternoon, when rain clouds started rolling in over Sanur, we were already heading back—tired but happy, with way more checked off our list than I thought possible.
