The experience
You arrive in Labuan Bajo and get picked up from your hotel or the airport. The boat leaves the next morning for Kelor Island, where a short hike gives you views across the surrounding sea before you head to Rinca Island to trek with a local ranger and spot Komodo dragons in their natural habitat. That evening you anchor at Kalong Island to watch thousands of flying foxes take flight at sunset. Two nights you sleep on the boat in an air-conditioned cabin, with coffee and tea available each morning.
Day two takes you to Padar Island for a moderate trek to a viewpoint overlooking the island's white, pink and black sand beaches, then to Komodo Island itself for another guided walk through the dry forest where you might see wild boar and water buffalo alongside the dragons. Pink Beach comes next (the sand really does have a pink tint from crushed coral), and the snorkeling there is clear and full of reef fish and sea turtles. You spend the second night on the boat.
On day three you snorkel at Taka Makassar, a shallow sandbar with vibrant coral, then head to Manta Point where the water turns deep blue and manta rays glide past with wingspans up to four meters. Siaba Island, known as Turtle Point, offers more snorkeling among sea turtles and coral gardens. Kanawa Island rounds out the afternoon before you sail back to Labuan Bajo in the late afternoon and transfer to a hotel of your choice (not included in the tour price). Day four is a three-hour trek to Cunca Wulang Waterfall through tropical forest, followed by a boat ride through Rangko Village to Rangko Cave, where you swim in a freshwater pool inside the cave. After that, you get dropped at your hotel or the airport.
