The experience
The minibus leaves your hotel and heads to Ubud, an hour's drive away, where you watch a one-hour barong dance performance. From there the route moves through Celuk Village, where silversmiths and goldsmiths work in open workshops, then to Batubulan Village to see batik being made by hand, and on to Mas Village for an hour among wood carvers and painters. Each stop is a working village, not a museum: you see the craft happening and can buy directly from the makers.
The afternoon swings north toward the mountains. Ubud Royal Palace (Puri Saren) sits close to the city center and takes 30 minutes to walk through. The palace is still partly a royal residence and the grounds show the wealth and history that shaped the region. From there, Tegalalang Rice Terrace is a 30-minute drive: a stepped landscape built on the subak system that lets you stand among the green fields and walk the narrow paths between paddies. An agrotourism stop lets you see how the terraces actually work.
The route then climbs to Kintamani Village for views of Mount Batur volcano and Lake Batur spread below. Lunch happens here while you look at the active volcano across the water. The final stop is Tirta Empul Temple, an hour's drive away, one of Bali's largest temples built in 1954 and dedicated to Vishnu. The temple requires a sarong (you can rent one at the entrance) and covers for shoulders and knees. After Tirta Empul, the driver takes you back to your hotel: a two-hour return drive. The whole day runs roughly 10 hours from pickup to drop-off.

Top questions
Can I customize the stops, or does the minibus follow a set route?
The itinerary shown here is the standard route, but a 12-seat charter is a private rental, so you can discuss changes with the operator when you book. The driver will work within the day's timeframe and the distances involved.
What is the barong dance performance in Ubud like?
The barong is a traditional Balinese dance that lasts about an hour and tells stories from Hindu mythology using elaborate costumes and live music. It plays in Ubud, the cultural center of Bali, and is included as part of the first stop on the route.
Do I need to wear anything special at Tirta Empul Temple?
Tirta Empul Temple requires a sarong and clothing that covers your shoulders and knees. You can bring your own sarong or rent one at the temple entrance for a small fee. The entrance fee itself is separate and payable at the ticket counter.
Is lunch included in the minibus charter?
Lunch is not included in the rental price, but the route stops at Kintamani Village, where you can eat while looking out at Mount Batur and the lake. You choose where and what to eat during the lunch break.
How many people can fit in the minibus, and what about luggage?
The minibus seats 12 passengers. Infants must sit on an adult's lap. Luggage space depends on how many seats are occupied, so discuss bag storage with the operator when you book if you're traveling with large cases.
What is included in the minibus rental price?
Petrol, parking fees, and the English-speaking driver are all included. Hotel pickup and drop-off are arranged. Personal expenses (meals, temple entrance fees, sarong rental, shopping) are separate.
