The guide meets you near the sanctuary entrance at either 6:45am or 3:15pm. Early enough to catch the activity spike when birds feed, or late enough to fit into an afternoon that started elsewhere. The walk stays within Thattekad's own trails and the habitat immediately around them, so there's no scrambling to find transport to a second location.

Butterflies and dragonflies show up on the same paths, so the walk isn't only about birds. The guide speaks English or Hindi, and the whole session runs two to three hours. If you want to visit multiple birding spots across the wider area, you'd arrange your own transport: the guide fee covers only the Salim Ali Trail itself. Pickup from a nearby resort or town is available if you book it in advance and pay the extra cost.
