The experience
Can you dive if you've never swum before? Yes. The one-to-one instructor model means you move at your own pace, and the shallow-water training at the dive centre covers the basics (how to breathe through the regulator, clear your mask, and use hand signals) before the speedboat takes you to the reef. You don't need any prior experience. Nervous divers and non-swimmers book this regularly.
The eight reefs around Havelock each have their own character and marine life. Red Pillar and Tribe Gate sit close to the jetty, so the boat ride is five minutes. Turtle Beach on the south-east coast takes about fifteen minutes to reach. All of them hold coral gardens and clownfish. Some reefs host reef sharks or turtles. You descend slowly along a rope with your instructor, spend roughly thirty minutes underwater, and a photographer captures the moment. You get the 30 photos and 3 videos on WhatsApp the same day.
Hotel pickup and drop happen within 5 km of the dive centre in Govind Nagar. If your hotel is farther out, you can arrange additional pickup at checkout. The whole experience runs three hours from pickup to drop-off. Wetsuit, mask, fins, BCD, regulator and tank all come fitted for you at the centre, and your certified instructor (speaking English or Hindi) stays one-to-one throughout the dive.
